Local 76 Members, we need your help getting this important bill, concerning the safety and health of working minors, to the House floor. With the expansion of trades-preparedness classes for high school students, more employers are obtaining work permits to hire working minors, but they are not always properly training or supervising them, and there have been a number of life-threatening injuries for young workers on agricultural and construction sites. Please contact your representatives today and urge them to support HB 1644, which will increase penalties for employers and give L&I the power to revoke work permits when employers continue to violate the law and will help protect these working minors and their future careers in the trades. Find and review the bill here, where you can also click on “Send a comment on this bill to your legislators,” which will lead you step by step to finding your representatives and give you a chance to share your concerns and why we need to support HB 1644.
