Brothers and sisters,
The IBEW is partnering with the producers of the movie Stand! to give you and your families a special
opportunity to enjoy its inspiring story of one of North America’s most historic strikes.
Stand!, a movie musical filmed in Canada, brings to life the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike that saw
30,000 private and public sector workers walk off the job for six weeks. A recent edition of The
Electrical Worker wrote about the production, which you can read here.
International President Stephenson described Stand! as a “powerful film about the power of solidarity that
crosses lines of ethnicity, race, class and gender.”
He met with the producers when the movie was still on the drawing board. “They said they were going to make the new Norma Rae-meets-Hamilton,” he says. “I think you’ll agree they succeeded.”
Between Friday, March 19, and Easter Sunday, April 4, Stand! is being made available to IBEW members for streaming at a discounted price. There’s bonus material for us, including a welcome from President Stephenson and a pre-recorded Q&A session afterwards with the moviemakers and cast.
For $7.99, members will have a three-day window to watch Stand! as many times as they’d like. Pre-orders are available now. To purchase the film, members should visit this link.
The Winnipeg General Strike happened a century ago, but as you’ll see, it speaks powerfully to our struggles today. Its lessons are just as relevant now.
I hope you’ll share this IBEW-exclusive presentation of Stand! with your members and encourage them to give it a watch.
